Hi friends,
Welcome back to the more aptly called bi-weekly series, where I share five little and big events, learnings, moments, facts to appreciate.
I’m moving! I’m still in Austin but making the change to a new location that is more walkable, accessible to central of the city (meaning more meandering, nature and good energy all around).
Gained momentum with running again, I ran 4 miles last Sunday around Lake Union in Seattle and past by the most beautiful scenery. I try to run at least once weekly and when the weather is nice out but making it a routine is not easy…
3. Spending time amongst greenery + culture. I went to the Seattle Asian Art Museum and Volunteer Park last weekend, which is an absolutely peaceful and relaxing experience. Would highly recommend, and the museum allows discounts for students if you still keep your student ID.
4. This principle to more peacefully own my life without nitpicking every small detail when feeling like I’m not as “cool” or “awesome” as everyone else on the internet from Product Lessons Newsletter by Linda Zhang.
I used to envy people who looked like they were living out my dream. Then I learned a hack. Whenever I feel a spike of envy, I ask: would I want to trade all of my life for all of their life? Instead of selectively comparing the best part of their life to the worst part of mine, I look at the whole.
I’m a woman of detail and specificity, and with this paradigm, I can immediately cease the constant comparison whirring. Also I’m beginning to believe in the approach of “No shortcuts.”
5. Best reads of the week:
This is Water (part 2) by the Digital Native Newsletter, revisiting (American) social norms like driving cars, eating meat, buying brand new items, stereotypes on gender, race, culture and nationality.
Don’t ask about culture from the Product Lessons newsletter. This gives great practical advice to understand a company aside from just asking about the culture, which can be performative and does not provide the full picture.
And…my personal favorite 10 Rules for Assertive Rest by Jessica Hagy.
Hope your week and summer is going swimmingly. As usual, leave a comment with any thoughts or suggestions, I respond to all of them. Thanks for reading and I’ll see you next week!
Congratulations on your running! The more I stop and think about it, the more that I miss running!
