Hi friends,
This week we are celebrating big and small milestones:
My first run after COVID recovery back in June. This Lake Union running view is unbeatable and so is the evergreen state summer. One of my goals for 2023 is complete a first half marathon so easing back into running feels awesome.
2.My birthday month! Cancer Season - cry babies, emotional babies, loving, caring mom-friend of the group. Celebrate your emotional buddies, partners, parents, siblings, we need that often… if not everyday.
3.My high school desk mate, long time friend and now adulting buddy Linh is starting her first full time tech job next week.
4.Finding new Substack that make me think, I have been loving:
A Grain of Salt, bookbear express, Digital Native and Perspectives by Deb Liu.
Pieces I read and like this week (both are oddly tech related):
This Is Water: Revisiting Social Constructs from the Digital Native
newsletter.
My daughter and I had the talk — about algorithms from the Field Research newsletter by Amran Gowani. Earlier in the week, I taught a handful of kindergarten girls on algorithms. That alone made me wish I had people break down complex concepts for me when I began stepping into the world of computer science in college.
5.Had one of the best viennoiserie in the U.S. at Celine Patiserrie for my birthday. I think I am beginning to develop a fondness for almond croissant. Other honorary mentions include La Parisienne and Bakery Nouveau, both do an excellent job in creating flaky and buttery goodness pastries.

Bonus: Saw Mt. Rainier up close for the first time in my life. The best way I can describe is that the moutain is ever so stunning and even more awe-inspiring up close. Fun fact: Mt. Rainier, at 4,392m, is the highest mountain in the state of Washington and most topographically prominent in contiguous United States (look out for it when you are flying out of the Sea Tac Airport). It is also an active volcano at rest.
We took a day trip up the mountain and spent 4 hours driving around to finally find a hike but it was so worth it, I would highly recommend if you ever visit Seattle in the summer.
That’s all for this week. Hope you are having a great summer, let me know what you are up to!
Talk soon,
MD
Almond croissant is the best and so is Mt. Rainier! 🤤
